The namesake of this rose was an agent of change. Eglantyne Jebb (August 25, 1876 - December 17, 1928) helped found Save the Children Fund and drafted the Declaration of Rights of the Child -- a document adopted by the League of Nations in 1924 and eventually embraced by the United Nations.

The heart of Mr. Jebb’s Declarations held that children must be given the means for normal development, material and spiritual. If for no other reason than the need to be inspired and reminded of the importance to do more for others, I plan to plant one of these roses near one of my windows.

As for its appearance and fragrance, this rose has a heady redolent aroma. Even a single bloom in a bouquet will leave a scented impression in your home.

This rose, and its fragrance, came to my attention when my neighbor gave me a small late summer rose bouquet. I dropped it in a small vase and left for the day and returned to a home filled with the most delightful perfume. I was surprised that just a few roses could produce such a generous fragrance.

Next, I visited my neighbor to thank her for the bouquet and she showed me her backyard which was filled with at least a dozen of these roses planted in the midst of linear and diminutive trim box hedges. They had a willowy grace. Their blooms are a true light Victorian pink and in their setting they had an ethereal quality.
