Secret Rose
The Secret rose parents are Pristine and Friendship, and this rose has the best of both of its classic parents.
This hybrid tea rose has fragrant blooms. Defined in its patents as a bicolor bloom of Naples Yellow and Venetian Pink, in the garden most of these blooms are tricolored, with a tinge at the base of the petals of Naples Yellow that quickly blends to cream and turns to Venetian Pink (or when I was a kid- bubble-gum pink) near the edge of every true tea shaped petal. Amazing -- like a multi-tiered divine pink cake with a lemon butter fillings, and endless butter cream!
The plant has a bushy shape with dark green leaves and can grow to be 4.5 feet plus. It has traditional tea foliage. By this, I mean it has its good and bad days. To help buck-it up on its down days, I would plant it amongst a hedge or with some pretty pink-hued grasses.
While its patent says it is disease resistant, it does, of course, have the usual rust and mildew problems. All in all though, it is pretty hearty. Some say it can tolerate some shade, but toleration does not make for its best blooms. This rose would make a wonderful addition to any garden and bouquet and would do well in a sunny warm bed.
